Every year, there are a few fantasy basketball players who rise out of obscurity, establishing themselves as bona fide must start players through the course of the season.
Maybe you were eve watching them as they developed, before another manager in your league snagged them off the waiver wire. Wasn’t that a bummer if that happened?
Who wins the crown in this category this year? As we’re a bit less than halfway into the season at this point, we’re beginning to get a clearer picture as to which players might be fly by night sensations, and which will be here to stay.
As far as the winner of this category goes, there’s one player who I specifically have in mind, as I believe he’s done a tremendous job so far.
In just his second full season of basketball, it’s clear that Kevin Love will be a force to be reckoned with for quite some time. Few people actually expected him to show the rebounding prowess he has, and no one thought he’d be putting up 15 and 12 on a nightly basis.
Love has one of the highest free throw percentages for a center in all of basketball, and he’s shoots some three pointers here and there too.
There are only a few centers in the NBA who shoot three pointers, and their contributions are invaluable to teams. One more great element of Love is the fact that he averages over a steal per game, also a rarity at the position.
While he was drafted by some teams in the very late rounds, he went undrafted by and large. In addition to this, most of those who drafted him decided to drop him when it was revealed that he’d miss the first month of the season due to injury.
As of now, no player has hit the fantasy radar with the impact that Kevin Love has. It should be really interesting to see where he takes his game from here.
