Lots of regular gamblers when questioned on their favourite card games would respond with Blackjack. One of the oldest games around the casinos is Blackjack. The age of Blackjack has definitely contributed to it’s popularity amongst today’s gambling population as casino goers try to beat the dealer in an age old game as many generations before them have tried. The popularity of Blackjack is not only confined to the four walls of the card rooms worldwide but is also becoming an internet phenomenon.
I intend to discuss a key point. A much heated debate amongst regular Blackjack players is whether this is a game simply of luck of the cards or skilful play. Many players throughout the world have their own theories supporting either side of the argument. Some believe in luck, some believe in skill, so let us see what makes these people believe each theory.
The skilful argument usually draws most of its weight from knowing when to use the appropriate moves. When to split or hit, or double down or stand are the moves that lead many players to conclude Blackjack is much more than luck. I am pretty sure that most Blackjack regulars have seen the winning strategy table advising on when to time these moves.
Those players believing that Blackjack is simply a game of luck point mostly to the thousands of possible combinations or sequences of cards. This is very interesting point as you can never really know just what card awaits you in the deck. The shuffle of the deck creates an unpredictable sequence of cards leaving millions of card players certain that this game is nothing more than luck.
A technique also spoken about to strengthen players odds at the Blackjack table is card counting. This involves keeping a running track of what cards have been out and so you can supposedly work out what is likely to come next.
