The NFL is coming up to a point in 2011 where they may have to lock out the players. The big question is what will the players do? Well, Brandon Marshall who is currently on the Miami Dolphins roster as a wide-receiver has a plan. He’s made it very clear that he wants to give the NBA a shot if this happens. Marshall’s ideal situation would be to get a tryout with the Miami Heat or the Denver Nuggets. Since Marshall spent several years in Denver and is now familiar with Miami, these teams make sense for him. He’s made it clear that he’s serious about this as well! Brandon Marshall played competitive basketball growing up and throughout high school. However, he’s now 26 years old and has been out of competitive basketball for quite some years. He’s still extremely...
The 2008 season (4-12) for the Cincinnati Bengals was a nightmare without question. The team had very high expectations but were one of the laughing stocks in the NFL. Once Carson Palmer went down, we all knew it would be a rough year. Without Palmer, the team was anything but dangerous, and its offense virtually non-existent. The team struggled to score points, and simply couldn’t win games. Fans were giving up on them. Chad Johnson was practically invisible on offense, and TJ Houshmandzadeh was nowhere near his usual output level. Rudi Johnson was all but done, but luckily there was another RB who was able to prove himself once again. TJ Houshmandzadeh wasn’t playing like himself, and injury issues limited him too. If there’s anything good about last season, the last few...
The Atlanta Falcons are off to a good start to the 09′ season. Can they keep pace with the New Orleans Saints all season in the NFC South division? This will be a very tough task, but they do have some young rising stars that can help this situation. Matt Ryan had one of the best rookie QB seasons ever in 08′, completing 61% of his pass attempts, over 3,400 yards passing, 21 touchdown passes, only 12 interceptions, with a QB rating of almost 90 and starting all 16 games – many veteran QB’s will take that season any day. The Atlanta Falcons were the “darlings” of the NFL in 08′ with a record of 11-5, surprising most in their success a year after compiling a record of 4-12 in 07′. While the Falcons lost to the Arizona Cardinals in the Wild Card...
The Arizona Cardinals are not starting off the 09′ season as they ended the 08′ season. QB Kurt Warner doesn’t seem to be the same man who led the Cardinals to one of the greatest playoff pushes in recent memory. While the wide receivers for the Cardinals are still being productive – they are not close to where they were in 08′. The Arizona Cardinals are notorious for losing year after year and not spending money on the “big time” players. These last few years have proved to be different ironically. The front office for the Cardinals has loaded the team with Pro Bowl players and potential Pro Bowl players such as WR Larry Fitzgerald, WR Anquan Boldin, RB Tim Hightower, and WR Steve Breaston. WR Larry Fitzgerald might be the best WR in the NFL today...
The Detroit Lions have no expectation for the 09′ season really — just don’t go 0-16 and that will be good enough it seems. The Lions already improved in 09′ winning in week 3 against the Washington Redskins 14-19 — the teams first win since 07′ against the Kansas City Chiefs in week 16. The Lions celebrated their first victory in years by high five-ing the fans in the crowd. The Detroit Lions from 99′ — 08′ compiled an astonishing record of 48-112. If the Detroit Lions were in a European soccer league they would have been demoted to another level — or even disbanded the team and redistribute the players perhaps. It has been one bad draft pick after another for the Detroit Lions, nothing has worked. When will they get it right? Entering...
The last few seasons for the Dallas Cowboys have caused the team and fans serious heartbreak. The 07′ 13-3 season ended with a disappointing loss to the New York Giants in the divisional playoffs, the 08′ season ended in a 9-7 season missing the playoffs. The last game of the regular season against the Philadelphia Eagles was an embarrassment, 44-6 loss. What a beautiful stadium it is. Broadcast to the nation on Sunday Night Football, we witnessed a new breed of sports complex. This was big enough where, laid on its side, the Empire State Building would be the same length as the stadium (or even less). Wow, that’s scary to even think about! The Cowboys have a good quarter back in Tony Romo – who is prone to having a three interception game from time to time. Romo can...
What to make of the Cleveland Browns? Having struggled mightily in 2008, the team looked rather hopeless ending off the season. The Browns are one of the worse statistical teams in the NFL in every major category, offense and defense. The Brown are in a brutal division, AFC North, with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens and the “new & improved” Cincinnati Bengals. There was Brady Quinn, a young quarterback with a promising future, and Eric Mangini, who came over as the team’s new head coach after being dismissed from New York. Then there’s Brady Quinn, now entering his second season. Quinn has been expected to take the reigns and bring Cleveland football back to a glorious state. Coupled with Quinn’s presence is the addition of Eric Mangini, former New...
The 2009 National League Cy Young race is an interesting situation. There are at least two pitchers who make definitive cases for the coveted award, and choosing the winner will be a difficult decision for those forced to vote. While some great pitching was pretty commonplace throughout the entire National League, the race really boils down to two pitchers. Guys like Matt Cain, Adam Wainwright, Jair Jurrjens, Johan Santana, Wandy Rodriguez, and others were absolutely great this season, with many of them having career years. Between the St. Louis Cardinals’ Chris Carpenter and the San Francisco Giants’ Tim Lincecum, the two pitchers pieced together two of the best pitching seasons in baseball that I’ve witnessed over the last few years. A quick look at their numbers would lead...
The New York Football Giants look to win their second Super Bowl in 3 years in 09′. While the previous Super Bowl win was considered an upset but many – this years Giants will not sneak up on anyone. The NFC East is one of the most competitive divisions in football and winning it will be an accomplishment without a doubt. The Giants were coming off of a week 1 victory against the Redskins at home. While the team was expected to win this game and did win, the team just squeaked by the Redskins with a 6 point (23-7) win. There is much parody in the league and if a team has a bad week and one team plays hard, that team will receive a loss. The Giants must play their game, running the football and Eli Manning distributing the ball all over the field. The Giants might not have the superstar...
